A Facelift for Homer III - Part 2
Making our home away from home a little more homey - Continue to Part 3

Homer III is a 2009 Fleetwood Fiesta, a gas-powered 36' Class A motorhome. We purchased Homer III in October 2013, and from day one, we wanted to replace the light colored carpet and uncomfortable hide-a-bed. This article is an account of our remodeling adventure.

Exploring Flooring...
With six of us stomping in and out of the camper, the carpet was never clean. We knew we had to replace the carpet with something more easily maintained.

Floating Vinyl Plank
I did a good deal of research, and discovered that most people recommend a "floating" floor system. "Floating" means the flooring isn't actually glued down. This is good for an RV because temperature variations cause expansion and con I found the wood designs look pretty real, but we decided a wood floor would just be too much. There already a lot of wood in there. When I looked at the vinyl tiles, they didn't look like real tile. Also, the seams for the tile were always in the center of the grout. It was very obvious the tile looked pretty cheap.

Composite Tile
After searching online and places like Home Depot and Lowes, I decided to visit an actual flooring store. There are lots of those in North Georgia. I visited a store called Dalton Wholesale Carpets, described my need to the sales guy, and he showed me the solution. He showed me a section of their showroom floor that had a very realistic tile made from some kind of magic patented composite material. Congoleum!

We decided the entire camper was to be refloored, and I wasn't about to bite off that kind of a job on my own.
